We are a well established and thriving psychotherapy and counselling practice, in operations since 2017. Cherry Tree provides quality general counselling and psychotherapy services for a wide range of issues for clients across Ontario with a special focus on maternal health and women’s wellness. Our diverse team supports youth, adults, individuals, couples and families.

 

Our Clinical Internship Program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to practice core competencies and apply classroom theory to direct client work. Interns will be offered internal weekly supervision and monthly group supervision as per program requirements.  As an intern at Cherry Tree you will be working with a high level of independence while also being part of a supportive team. This position will be virtual.

 

Internship Requirements:

  • Pursuit or near completion of Master’s degree in Psychotherapy or Social Work from a recognized North American Institution

  • Qualifying status with CRPO or OCSWSSW

  • Professional liability insurance

  • Confirmed acceptance into practicum

  • Police records check

  • Two professional references

  • Experience, passion, training, and/or demonstrated clinical skill in the areas of perinatal psychotherapy and women’s wellness and/or willingness to complete training prior to receiving referrals

  • Inclusivity and diversity training, risk assessment and crisis intervention training a strong asset

  • Client-centred, trauma-informed approach to care

  • Culturally competent

  • Clear communication, sound judgement, and empathic ability to establish therapeutic relationships

  • Eagerness to network with other professionals, desire to build relationships and work collaboratively with other practice members

  • Self-motivated, self-confident and able to work autonomously

  • Growing ability to apply a variety of theoretical models to practice in assessment and intervention.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, colleagues, referral sources, medical personnel, and community agency personnel.

  • Strong computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, Internet and e-mail software as well as knowledge of social media and marketing

  • A strong commitment to upholding professionalism and ethical standards

  • Experience in working remotely (virtually)

  • Ability to multi-task, pay close attention to detail and complete charting in adherence with College and PHIPA reporting standards

  • Evening and weekend availability an asset

  • Ability to take direction

  • A laptop for accessing web based EMR and video conferencing and a consistent private and professional space in which to work

 

As an Intern Therapist you will:

  • Provide consultation and counselling for clients with diverse mental health and wellness-related concerns under supervision

  • Offer evidence-based, high-quality care to those in our community

  • Keep client records according to practice standards

  • Participate in team meetings and training

  • Perform administrative duties and indirect client work as required

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and case consultation

  • Participate in weekly clinical supervision

  • Build your caseload through networking and community building

  • Complete billing and invoicing
