Meet Shabana Omar
BSc., M.A., RP (she/her)
ASSOCIATE THERAPIST
“ I believe that people are the experts of their own lives and have the innate capacity to create the change they want to see in their lives… and I am here to help them.”
Shabana is currently at capacity but we invite you to join her wait list as cancellations do occur and openings do become available.
I am sensitive to the systemic factors at play that create barriers for women and am passionate about empowering my clients to overcome these barriers.
As a licensed mental health counsellor and member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, I bring a diverse range of clinical experience.
I have worked with individuals struggling with various concerns, including: experiences of trauma, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, as well as chronic pain related mental health concerns.
I have also worked extensively with women, as well as children in my role as a violence against women counsellor at Catholic Family Services of Hamilton.
I also have lead and facilitated evidence-based parenting skills workshops based on a democratic, respectful parenting approach.
My extensive experience working with women from all age groups, and backgrounds, has allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the particular challenges women experience as they navigate the various roles they play in their personal and professional lives.
I do believe that people are experts of their own lives and have the innate capacity to create the change they want to see in their lives. But I am also aware that there can be external and internal barriers that make it difficult for people to create the life they want for themselves.
That’s why my therapeutic approach, ensures that the therapeutic work is collaborative, and client-centred and explores not only the sources of dis-empowerment but also current and potential sources of empowerment in my clients’ lives.
I strive to create a safe, respectful, non-judgmental space for each of my clients so you can freely, and without fear explore your concerns, learn new skills, and re-discover the strengths, and positive qualities you already have.
