“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

- VICTOR E. FRANKL

I’m Sophi and I’m an intern therapist completing my Masters of Science in Psychotherapy at McMaster University. Alongside my studies and my role at Cherry Tree Counselling, I work as a Sexual Assault Counsellor at the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo. I love this role so much because it gives me the opportunity to learn from others and witness the healing that can happen in a therapeutic space.

In my therapeutic approach, I aim to be collaborative and flexible, recognizing that you are the expert of your own life. I incorporate an eclectic mix of evidence-based modalities and trauma-informed approaches, with a primary focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I aim to foster a space that is both non-judgemental and brave.

I love hearing people’s stories and having the chance to really see people for who they are. I learn so much from the clients I work with. I witness the parts of humans and ways of being that connect us all. We are all so similar, and there is something very comforting in that realization. It really is a privilege to experience this as a therapist, and it is a privilege I am extremely grateful to have.

I also recognize one of the most important components of success in therapy is the therapeutic relationship. Above all else, your comfort, sense of safety, and trust is most important to me. I incorporate warmth, humanity, and humour, along with evidence-based tools into my practice to help you access meaningful growth and change.

Together, we can develop a treatment plan that is tailored to you and your own goals. We can build adaptive coping mechanisms, reveal new perspectives, develop a deeper sense of self, decrease harmful symptoms, and navigate difficult challenges in a way that makes sense to you and your values.

Whether you are navigating parenting challenges, seeking personal growth, or addressing complex life issues, I am here to support you on your path to well-being. Together, we will explore your aspirations and challenges with empathy and understanding, finding moments of laughter and growth along the way.

Sophi is accepting new clients for online or in-person appointments (Dundas/Hamilton).
